Basketball Night Another Success

The Black Awareness Club would like to thank all (faculty, parents, and students) who participated in making Basketball Night a huge success. The Sophomores started off the night by soundly beating a resilient Freshman team. The Seniors squeezed past a scrappy Junior’s team 27-24 in a classic upperclassman showdown. The Seniors ended the night by winning the championship game over Sophomores in a convincing victory. The Three Point Contest was won by DJ Kearney Jr. who sank eight three point shots to take the crown and the dunk contest was won by Cederick Arca who dazzled the crowd with two high-flying one-handed slams. Congratulations to all participates and teams who represented our school and respective classes.

Guest Speaker Success Story

If you missed this the unforgettable story of Baltimore's other Iron Man, you missed a good one. Mr. "Fancy" Clancy Haskett came in and shared his story about overcoming a brutal childhood, to becoming one of the country's top ranked vendors and co-owner of the All-Pro vending company at Ravens Stadium. The Black Awareness Club thanks you for sharing your story and knowledge with us!

Solid Presentation on the word "Ghetto"

Andie did an outstanding job providing the group with some useful information about the origins of the word ghetto. Officer Gaynor also gave us some words of wisdom to think about during the presentation. Now we've got some useful tactics we can use to address someone who calls you ghetto. Looks like Gang Violence will be next up. Can't wait!

Easter Basket Time

Attention: BAC

It's time to start bringing in the materials (and candy) for the Easter Basket Deliveries. Baskets, Green, Yellow, or Pink Grass, Jelly Beans, Small Toys (middle school aged), etc. are needed. We will be putting these baskets together for the next meeting March 24th. Our goal is to make a total of 41 baskets!

Remember: Be there and help make someone's Easter from the Children's Home a special one.

Bullying: A Big Hit!

Another excellent job on last week's "Bullying" presentation. Kudos to Reggie, Farida, and Briana (who almost felt the wrath of Mr. Barber for her remarks). You've also started a buzz about the buttons around CHS too. Everybody wants to know how can they get one. Well, come to the Black Awareness Club meetings!!! Great job guys.

Porkchop Coming To CHS

In the radio game under the guidance of the late, great K-Swift, Porkchop began as Swift’s and Reg Reggie’s producer for their popular night show on 92Q. Moving his way up from producer, to board-op, to co-host of “Rap Attack,” Porkchop became a full-time fixture on 92Q when he joined the legendary “Big Phat Morning Show.” Porkchop is living proof that with patience and God and your side, anything can happen. Now you can hear “the voice of Baltimore,” along with his partner in crime Squirrel Wyde, on “OFF THE HOOK RADIO” from 6pm-10pm Monday thru Friday on 92Q! (http://92q.com/author/porkchop)
